Fidelity Internship 2027: programs, timeline and interview

Fidelity's paid 10-week summer internship runs June through August for college students from all areas of study, usually the summer before junior or senior year. You apply once in the fall, mid-September through mid-October, and are considered for all eight focus areas, with rolling interviews and hiring Fidelity aims to finish by January. Asset Management internships run on their own calendar, with Fall 2026, Winter 2027 and Spring 2027 windows depending on the role. For Fidelity's behavioral interviews, Soreno, an AI voice interview practice app for consulting and finance candidates, has free video answer practice with no sign-up and full mock interviews that follow up and score every answer.

Updated

  • 10 weeks, paid. June through August, for students from any major, the summer before junior or senior year.
  • One application, eight areas. You name the area you want, and recruiters can match you with any of the eight.
  • A fall window. Mid-September through mid-October. Fidelity's internship page now lists Summer 2027 applications as closed.
  • Mostly outside core finance. Fidelity's university team says it mostly wants students for customer service, technology and operations roles.
  • Behavioral interviews. A recruiter call first, then interviews built on questions like "Tell me about a time..."

    Asset management interview questions
A portfolio question we wrote, workedOurs, practice

Our invented question. A client has $80,000, 60% in stocks and 40% in bonds. Over the year stocks rise 10% and bonds fall 2%. What did the portfolio return, and what would you move to get back to 60/40?

  1. Step 1

    Split it: $48,000 and $32,000

60% of $80,000 is $48,000 in stocks, which leaves $32,000 in bonds.

  2. Step 2

    Grow each: $52,800 and $31,360

The portfolio is now $84,160, a gain of $4,160 or 5.2%. Check it with weights: 60% times 10% plus 40% times minus 2% is also 5.2%.

    Free percent and ratio drills
  3. Step 3

    Stocks drifted to 62.74%

    $52,800 of $84,160 is 62.74%. At 60%, stocks should be $50,496.

  4. Answer

Move $2,304 from stocks to bonds

That leaves $50,496 in stocks and $33,664 in bonds. Say the number first, then one thing you would ask the client, such as whether the 60/40 target still fits their goals.

What does Fidelity look for in interns?

From a February 2026 Fidelity article in which its university recruiters give internship tips, and from Fidelity's careers FAQ.

  • Team players

A senior university lead says Fidelity works in teams, so someone very individually motivated may not be a good fit, however strong.

  • Results, not adjectives

A Fidelity recruiter in the FAQ asks you to describe what you accomplished as a result of your strengths, with specific examples, rather than listing them.

  • Stories with cause and effect

Fidelity's tips ask for a few stories with a purpose, showing a cause and an effect so the interviewer sees what you accomplished.

  • Open to coaching

A university relationship lead says interns build teamwork, leadership and communication skills and can focus on being receptive to feedback and coaching.

  • A reason for Fidelity

Know why you want a paid internship with Fidelity and what it means for your education and career. Arrive with your own questions.

How do the Fidelity internship timeline and interviews work?

The steps from Fidelity's internship page, its careers FAQ and its article on the hiring process, in order.

See each step
  1. Freshman and sophomore year

    Build the experience

Fidelity suggests learning about the firm and documenting your skills and experiences before you are eligible. Clubs, part-time jobs and a first resume count, and career discovery programs are open before then.

From Fidelity: Students, Fidelity: internship tips and Fidelity: Career discovery programs.

  2. Mid-September to mid-October

    Apply once

Apply in the fall of your sophomore or junior year and name the area you want. Fidelity's tips say to apply to only one Fidelity internship in the window.

From Fidelity: Summer internships and Fidelity: internship tips.

  3. After you apply

Resume review and a recruiter call

Fidelity reviews your resume, and selected students get a phone call with a recruiter. The recruiter explains the rest of the process: the number and length of interviews, who conducts them and, for some roles, any skills assessments or case studies.

From Fidelity: Summer internships and Fidelity: Understanding the hiring process.

  4. Rolling, through January

    Interviews

If your skills match, you are invited to interview with hiring managers, other associates or a panel, mostly on behavioral questions. Fidelity's FAQ says most people have at least two rounds, first with recruiting and hiring managers, then with the team, and some interviews run on video platforms such as HireVue.

    HireVue interview guide

From Fidelity: Understanding the hiring process and Fidelity: Careers FAQ.

  5. By January

    Selection and offer

Fidelity aims to finish internship hiring by January. The hiring manager or panel decides, and the recruiter makes the offer.

From Fidelity: Summer internships and Fidelity: Understanding the hiring process.

  6. June to August

The internship, then a full-time role

Interns work on real projects with full-time associates and join intern events. Fidelity calls each internship a first step toward a career there, through the full-time programs in the table above.

From Fidelity: Careers FAQ and Fidelity: Students.

10 Fidelity internship interview questions to practice

  1. Tell me about yourself.

    Fidelity internship tips (2026)

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. I'm a junior at a large public university studying economics and information systems. For two years I've worked at our campus IT help desk. Monday password resets kept jamming the queue, so I mapped the steps and rewrote the self-service instructions with my supervisor, and those tickets fell. I'm applying to Operations because I like making a process run cleanly for the people who depend on it.

Experience relevant to the area you applied to, then why you want it. Fidelity's tips say to focus on the role and show your motivation. Practice it, see a model answer

  2. What is your greatest strength and weakness?

    Fidelity internship tips (2026)

    What a strong answer does

A specific example for each and real self-awareness. Pair the weakness with what you now do about it. Practice it, see a model answer

  3. Describe a challenging project and how you handled it.

    Fidelity internship tips (2026)

    What a strong answer does

Use STAR, the method Fidelity names: the context, your goal, the steps you took, and the outcome and what you learned. Practice it, see a model answer

  4. Describe a time you were given feedback at work. How did you react to it and implement it moving forward?

    Fidelity interview preparation one-pager

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. At my summer front desk job, my manager said my billing entries were accurate but I talked too fast and used insurance terms patients didn't follow. I thanked her and asked to watch how she explained deductibles. I wrote three plain phrases on a card and started pausing after every dollar amount to ask for questions. In my end-of-summer review she named patient communication as my biggest improvement.

The feedback in plain words, what you changed that week and what improved. No defensiveness. Practice it, see a model answer

  5. Tell me about a time your hard work paid off and helped you accomplish a goal.

    Fidelity CRA interview prep page

    What a strong answer does

A goal that took steady effort over weeks, the plan you kept to and the result. Fidelity's prep page for its CRA and FCA customer roles suggests preparing it. Practice it, see a model answer

Our questions5 questions

Ours, built on what Fidelity's recruiters say they look for.

  1. Why Fidelity, and why this focus area?

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. I chose Client relations because I've spent two years calming long lines as a coffee shop shift supervisor, and I want to use that with real financial training. Fidelity's page says client relations interns shadow calls first and then take their own with support, which is how I learn best. Long term I want to earn a FINRA license and help families plan for retirement.

One reason tied to the area's daily work and one tied to how you want to grow. Fidelity's tips ask you to know why you want this internship.

  2. Tell me about a group project where the team's result mattered more than yours.

    What a strong answer does

What the team needed, the part you took on and how you helped someone else succeed. Fidelity's recruiters say they work as teams.

  3. How did you resolve a situation where someone needed help with a problem you had never seen?

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. At the library desk, a graduate student needed a recalled dataset for a defense the next morning, and the reference librarian had gone home. I asked for the exact citation first so I wouldn't chase the wrong file. Then I searched our consortium catalog, found a partner college with the same archive and called their desk to arrange a guest login. He had the files within 20 minutes.

Listen first, find the answer you didn't have, then close the loop. This follows the "How did you resolve a situation where" form Fidelity uses.

  4. Tell me about a time you used data to make a recommendation.

    What a strong answer does

What the headline number said, what you found underneath it and the call you made. One chart's worth of detail is enough.

  5. A client's $80,000 portfolio is 60/40 stocks and bonds. Stocks rise 10% and bonds fall 2%. What do you move to get back to 60/40?

    What a strong answer does

$2,304 from stocks to bonds. The portfolio is $84,160 and stocks are 62.74% of it, so trim them to $50,496. Our worked steps are above.

Mistakes, prep plan and FAQ

Mistakes Fidelity's recruiters warn about
  • Applying everywhere at once

Fidelity's tips say to apply to only one Fidelity internship in the fall window. One application already puts you in front of all eight areas.

  • Listing strengths without results

Describe what you accomplished because of a strength. If you say you're efficient, expect to be asked for an example.

  • Skipping the homework

A senior university lead says students who have done their homework are more memorable. Read up on the area and bring a question.

  • Telling only solo stories

Highlight group projects, clubs, teams or volunteer work. Fidelity says it works in teams.

  • Trusting a fake recruiter

Fidelity says it never interviews on instant message platforms such as WhatsApp and would never ask you to pay money.

How to prepare for a Fidelity internship interview

Our plan, built on Fidelity's tips article and its interview preparation one-pager.

  1. Before you apply

Tailor the resume to one area

List your strengths, technical skills and soft skills, then match them to the area you pick. Include clubs, volunteering and part-time work.

    From Fidelity: internship tips.

  2. Before the interview

Write five stories with a result

Teamwork, feedback, a hard project, helping someone and a goal you worked toward. Revisit the job description and anything your recruiter sent.

From Fidelity: Interview preparation one-pager and Fidelity: CRA interview prep.

  3. This week

    Say them out loud

Fidelity's tips suggest practicing with roommates, the career center, recruiters or a mirror. Record yourself and cut anything that runs long.

  4. Interview day

    Set up early

A quiet, well-lit room with a strong connection, a charged device and your resume to hand. Log into the Zoom room 10 minutes early to test your camera.

    From Fidelity: Interview preparation one-pager.

  5. After

    Send a thank-you note

As soon as you can, thank the recruiter or hiring manager and say again why you want the role.

    From Fidelity: internship tips.

Questions people ask

When do Fidelity internship applications open?

The window for the eight focus areas runs mid-September through mid-October. Fidelity's internship page lists Summer 2027 applications as closed and points students to its Talent Network for alerts.

Can I apply to more than one Fidelity focus area?

One application covers all eight areas, and recruiters match you to the best fit. Fidelity's tips say to apply to only one Fidelity internship in the fall window.

Are Fidelity internships paid?

Yes. Internships are paid seasonal positions, full-time for the summer months, typically June to August. Co-ops are paid full-time positions, usually for four or six months, and students typically earn course credit.

Do I need to be a finance major?

No. The internship is open to students from all areas of study, and Fidelity's university team says most of its internships are outside core finance jobs.

Is there an internship for student athletes?

Yes. A six-week program in Covington, Durham, Merrimack and Westlake for student athletes whose practice schedules don't allow the 10-week program.

I'm a first-year student. What can I do now?

Fidelity's career discovery programs include Boundless for female high school and college students, with job shadowing and mentoring, and FidHacks, a hackathon for full-time first-year students where accepted students can be fast-tracked for consideration for a summer 2027 technology internship.
