How to read H-1B pay data

H-1B filings are the most complete public record of what consulting firms pay. They also leave a lot out.

  1. 1

    What a filing is

Before a US employer hires someone on an H-1B visa, it files a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The filing names the job title, the work site and the wage. The DOL publishes every one. Each filing here is one case number.

  2. 2

Base pay only, and not an offer

The wage is base salary. Bonuses, signing bonuses, profit sharing and benefits are not in it. A filing is the wage the employer committed to pay a visa holder, not proof of a hire, and it covers US offices only.

  3. 3

Read the count with the median

The strategy firms file one salary per level: 442 of 497 BCG Consultant filings name exactly $190,000. Deloitte Senior Consultant filings run from $90,917 to $169,500, because pay there varies by office and practice. With fewer than 3 filings we show no number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Soreno, answered in one place.

After an MBA, the median base in H-1B filings is $192,000 for a McKinsey Associate, $190,000 for a BCG Consultant and $192,000 for a Bain Consultant. Out of college it is $112,000 for a McKinsey Business Analyst, $110,000 for a BCG Associate and $112,000 for a Bain Associate Consultant. These are filings from January 2025 to June 2026, before bonus.
It depends on the level. For undergraduate hires, the highest median base in the filings is at McKinsey (Business Analyst, 58 filings) and Bain (Associate Consultant, 21 filings), both at $112,000. For MBA hires, it is at McKinsey (Associate, 149 filings) and Bain (Consultant, 55 filings), both at $192,000. For first managers, it is at BCG (Project Leader, $225,400, 173 filings). Only firms with 10 or more filings at that level are ranked, and bonus is not included.
From the US Department of Labor's H-1B Labor Condition Application disclosure data, filings submitted from January 2025 to June 2026. We read them through h1bdata.info, a free search of that data. Each firm's line shows the date we read its filings. The posted first-year pay for McKinsey, BCG and Bain comes from each firm's own US job postings.
No. A filing states base salary only. Bonus, signing bonus and profit sharing are on each firm's salary page, from dated reports we name there.
We only show a median when a level has 3 or more filings. With fewer, one unusual salary would decide the number. Smaller firms and senior titles file fewer H-1B applications, so they show up here more often.
McKinsey, BCG and Bain file one base salary for most levels, whatever the office, so their city tables mostly repeat one figure. Deloitte, PwC and Accenture file different salaries by office and practice, so their city medians differ.
Not exactly. It is what each firm filed for visa holders in the same title. Your offer depends on the office, the practice and your experience, and the firm may have raised pay since. Where a firm posts its first-year base, the tool shows that next to the filings.
Yes, and there is no sign-up. The firm, comparison and stage you pick are kept in the page link so you can share it.
