Free sample case: candidate-led

A BCG-style case you can try now

You structure the problem, choose which analysis to request and drive the case to a recommendation.

Step 1. Read the case

Brightwater Bottling: launch a premium sparkling water?

The interviewer gives you the case

Your client is Brightwater Bottling, a regional beverage company that sells still water in the US Northeast. Management is considering launching a premium sparkling water in the region. The CEO wants to know whether to launch. How would you approach this?

An original, fictional practice case written by Soreno in a BCG-style format. It is not a BCG interview question. Everything stays in your browser.

Step 2. Ask clarifying questions

Ask what you need to scope the problem. Do not ask for the data yet: in a candidate-led case you earn each number by asking for it later.

Step 3. Structure your answer

Take two minutes. Write your structure and first hypothesis, then say your opening out loud. In a candidate-led case you also say where you want to go first and why.

Now do a full case out loud

Soreno's AI interviewer gives you a full case, asks follow-up questions on your structure and math, and scores your answer. The 7-day free trial includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills.

What the BCG interview looks like

Here is what BCG says about its interview process on its own careers pages, and what it does not publish.

What BCG says

  • BCG describes its process as a two-way conversation. For client-facing roles there is a traditional interview about your experience, skills and motivation, and a case interview that assesses your problem-solving and analytical skills. BCG: Interview process.
  • BCG calls the case interview a problem-solving interview. You work through a realistic business challenge step by step: structure your approach, ask thoughtful questions, analyze data, do quick calculations and identify the most important factors. BCG: Case interview preparation.
  • BCG says it looks for clear communication, logical thinking, business intuition and creativity, and that there is not a single right answer: the quality of your reasoning matters. BCG: Case interview preparation.
  • Its guidance includes listening actively, thinking structurally, clarifying assumptions and showing your thinking, and avoiding rushing, staying silent or interrupting. BCG: Case interview preparation.
  • BCG points to OneDay@BCG, a free job simulation, as a way to see the kind of challenges it solves, and notes that its interviews also include a behavioral portion. BCG: Case interview preparation.

What BCG does not publish

  • how long each interview is, or how many rounds a candidate has. Lengths and steps can vary by office and role, so check your invitation.
  • who leads the case. BCG's pages do not say whether the candidate or the interviewer drives it. The candidate-led style here is how candidates and prep guides commonly describe BCG cases and how Soreno's BCG style runs; it is not a BCG statement.
  • scoring criteria or pass marks.
  • Not described on the pages we read: BCG's online case (Casey). Our Casey guide covers what BCG's candidate guide says.

Practice in Soreno

How Soreno's AI interviewer maps to BCG practice

These are features that exist in the Soreno app today. They practice the skills BCG's guidance describes. They do not reproduce BCG's questions or scoring.

  • 1

    BCG interviewer personality

An analytical, hypothesis-driven interviewer who pushes you to form a hypothesis early, interpret data and quantify, asking what the data tells you about the business.

  • 2

    Interviewee-led interview style

The AI lets your framework set the path. If you choose to start with the market or the economics, it follows you and redirects only when you are stuck or off track, like the sample above.

  • 3

    Exhibits, charts and math

The interviewer shows exhibits and asks for the so-what. Timed drills cover chart reading, case math, market sizing and structuring.

  • 4

    Behavioral practice

BCG notes that its interviews include a behavioral portion. Practice answering behavioral questions out loud with follow-ups.

  • 5

A scored report that quotes you

After each session you get feedback that points to moments in your own answer and a next-step plan. Recorded sessions also get filler-word and eye-contact analysis.

You set the interviewer personality and the interview style in Settings, under Interview preferences. Soreno does not simulate BCG's online case (Casey) or its other assessments. BCG offers free preparation of its own, including the OneDay@BCG simulation, so use it alongside Soreno.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. It is an original, fictional case written by Soreno in a candidate-led style. BCG's own preparation page points to the free OneDay@BCG simulation. Nothing here is a BCG interview question.
BCG's careers pages do not say who leads the case. It is commonly described as candidate-led, where you structure the problem, decide what to analyze and ask for data, and that is the style of this sample case and Soreno's BCG interviewer. BCG does tell candidates to structure their approach, ask questions and analyze data, which fits that style. Follow your own interviewer's lead on the day.
BCG describes a two-way conversation: a traditional interview about your experience and motivation, and for client-facing roles a case interview. Its global pages do not give interview lengths or the number of rounds. The section above lists what it states, with sources, as of October 2026.
No. Casey is BCG's own online case and Soreno does not recreate it. Our Casey guide explains what BCG's candidate guide says about the format and has a practice set. Soreno's AI interviewer practices the underlying skills out loud: structure, data and math, and a recommendation.
In the McKinsey-style case the interviewer asks distinct questions in sequence. Here you decide what to analyze and in what order, and you only get data you ask for. Practicing both is useful because real interviewers vary.
Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial that includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills. After that, plans are $199 a month or $349 a year, and weekly from $64. See the pricing page for details.
No. Soreno is an independent practice tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Boston Consulting Group. Boston Consulting Group is named only to describe the interview format candidates are preparing for.
