Strategy& case interview practice, with a slide-pack style case

Work a case built like the structured case Strategy& describes: data in slide form, a structure you explain, then a recommendation you take a stand on. A timer, a notes box and what a strong answer covers are included. Free, with no sign-up.

Free and runs in your browser. Soreno is independent and not affiliated with Strategy&. The 7-day free trial includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills.

Free sample case: structured case

A Strategy&-style case you can try now

A slide-style case: read the data, work through four questions and take a stand.

Step 1. Read the case

Tallgrass Components: the shift to electric vehicles

The interviewer reads you the case (with a slide pack)

Your client is Tallgrass Components, an auto parts supplier with $800 million of revenue: $600 million in parts for combustion engines and $200 million in parts for electric vehicles. Combustion volumes are expected to decline and electric volumes to grow. The CEO asks how Tallgrass should position itself over the next five years.

An original, fictional practice case written by Soreno in a Strategy&-style format. It is not a Strategy& interview question. Everything stays in your browser.

Step 2. Ask clarifying questions

Strategy& describes a case where you structure a client's problem and then work from a slide pack. Clarify the objective and the horizon, then structure.

Step 3. Structure your answer

Take two minutes. Say how you would structure the strategic question: where Tallgrass should compete, what it would take, and what it is worth. Write it, then say it out loud.

Soreno's AI interviewer gives you a full case, asks follow-up questions on your structure and math, and scores your answer. The 7-day free trial includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills.

What the Strategy& interview looks like

Here is what Strategy& (part of the PwC network) says about its interviews on its own careers pages, and what it does not publish. The pages are country specific.

What Strategy& says

  • For graduates in the UK, the first round is two back-to-back interviews, virtual or in person. One is an unstructured case study interview of about 45 minutes that starts with your background and motivations and then gives you a consulting case. Strategy& UK: Graduates and interns.
  • The other is a structured case study interview of about 45 minutes with a slide pack that reflects a real client project. You have about 10 minutes to review the information before developing recommendations for the client. Strategy& UK: Graduates and interns.
  • Its recruitment process page describes three to four 45-minute interviews in total, each with a real-world case discussion. Strategy&: Recruitment process.
  • Its business case guidance says to find a way to structure the problem, briefly explain your framework and let the interviewer comment, that simpler is better, and that there is no single right answer. It also says to watch the time and take a stand with a recommendation toward the end. Strategy&: Business case prep.

What Strategy& does not publish

  • a single global process. The pages we read are country specific (UK, Netherlands, Middle East), and numbers of interviews and formats differ.
  • who leads the case. Strategy&'s pages describe an unstructured and a structured case but do not say whether the interviewer or the candidate drives it. The question sequence in the sample case is Soreno's practice style, not a Strategy& statement.
  • scoring criteria, pass marks or how the interviews are weighted.

Practice in Soreno

How Soreno's AI interviewer maps to Strategy& practice

These are features that exist in the Soreno app today. They practice the skills Strategy&'s guidance describes. They do not reproduce its questions or scoring.

  • 1

    No Strategy&-specific interviewer style

Soreno has McKinsey, BCG, Bain, strict and coach interviewer styles and a default style, but no Strategy& style. Use the default interviewer. For the unstructured case, set the interview style to interviewee-led; for a structured case with exhibits, interviewer-led.

  • 2

    Interviewer-led or interviewee-led

You choose the interview style in Settings. Interviewer-led means the AI asks a sequence of questions; interviewee-led means you drive the case and decide what to analyze. Try both, because firms and interviewers differ.

  • 3

    Exhibits and math checks

The AI interviewer shows exhibits, asks you to walk through calculations and checks your arithmetic. Timed drills cover case math, market sizing and structuring.

  • 4

A scored report that quotes you

After each session you get feedback that points to moments in your own answer and a next-step plan. Recorded sessions also get filler-word and eye-contact analysis.

You set the interviewer personality and the interview style in Settings, under Interview preferences. Soreno shows exhibits during a voice case but does not simulate a printed slide pack you read for ten minutes. Practice that part with the sample case above.
