The Oliver Wyman online test, office by office

Oliver Wyman doesn't use one online test everywhere. Its Brazil and Mexico campus page describes 26 questions in 50 minutes, in English, covering critical reasoning, problem solving, data sufficiency and integrated reasoning, and its Middle East internship and Tokyo entry-level postings list an online test too. The European postings we read describe interviews only. For the case interviews that follow the test, Soreno, an AI voice interview practice app for consulting and finance candidates, has a free Oliver Wyman-style practice case with no sign-up and full mock cases with scored feedback.

Updated

  • Depends on the office. Brazil, Mexico, the Middle East and Tokyo's entry-level hiring list a test. The European postings we read don't.
  • Brazil and Mexico: 26 in 50. 26 questions in 50 minutes, about 115 seconds each, entirely in English.
  • Four question types. Critical reasoning, problem solving, data sufficiency and integrated reasoning. Its Latin America internship FAQs call their own tests GMAT-like.
  • Every stage eliminates. Oliver Wyman's Brazil and Mexico FAQ says each stage is evaluative and eliminatory.
  • Not published. The vendor, the calculator rule and the pass mark aren't on any Oliver Wyman page we read.

What is the Oliver Wyman online assessment?

Oliver Wyman publishes its hiring steps office by office, on its own careers pages and in postings on Marsh's careers site. These cards stick to what those pages say, read November 3, 2026. The global interview preparation page describes conversational and case interviews and no test.

Brazil and Mexico, in Oliver Wyman's wordsCampus recruiting FAQ

The most detailed description of an Oliver Wyman test on any page we read. It runs inside a fully virtual process.

  1. Order

    Application, test, fit, cases

The online test comes right after the application. Then a 15-minute fit conversation in English with no case, then two rounds of two case interviews each.

Oliver Wyman: Brazil and Mexico careers
  2. Pace

    About 115 seconds a question

26 questions in 50 minutes leave about 115 seconds each. In our experience a simple checkpoint helps: question 13 by minute 25.

  3. Stakes

    Each stage eliminates

Oliver Wyman says every stage is evaluative and eliminatory, and progression depends on performance in the previous phase.

  4. Reapplying

One year after the fit stage

If your application ends at the fit interview, you wait one year before reapplying, the FAQ says. It doesn't say what happens after the test stage.

Offices whose postings list no testPostings read November 3, 2026

These postings describe their hiring steps and none mentions an online test. Postings change each cycle, so check yours.

  1. Europe

    Conversational and case interviews

The London internship and the Paris, Brussels, Madrid and Copenhagen entry-level postings describe a mix of conversational and case interviews and ask for a CV, a cover letter and, in most, transcripts.

Oliver Wyman: London Summer Internship 2027
  2. Tokyo intern

Screening, then case and CV rounds

The 2027 Tokyo summer internship lists application screening, then a first and final round of case and CV interviews.

Oliver Wyman: Summer Intern 2027, Tokyo
  3. Hong Kong intern

Review after the deadline, then interviews

Applications close November 8, with CV review after the deadline and interviews in November.

Four practice items we wrote, workedOurs, one per question type

Oliver Wyman names the four question types but publishes no samples on the pages we read. These are ours, written to the same labels.

  1. Data sufficiency

What is the client's profit margin?

    (1) Revenue was $40M. (2) Costs were 85% of revenue. Statement 2 alone is enough, since the margin is 15% whatever the revenue. Statement 1 alone tells you nothing about costs. Answer: statement 2 alone.

  2. Problem solving

    Adding a fourth production line

3 lines make 1,200 units a day, so 400 each. A fourth at the same rate makes 1,600 a day, and a 36,000-unit order takes 22.5 days instead of 30.

    Free case math drills
  3. Integrated reasoning

Which region is bigger in 2 years?

Region A sells $50M and grows 20% a year. Region B sells $60M and grows 8%. Compounding gives $72M against $69.98M, so Region A pulls ahead, narrowly.

  4. Critical reasoning

    Find the assumption

"Stores that added self-checkout had higher profits last year, so self-checkout raises profits." The argument assumes nothing else separated those stores, such as size or location. The best answer choice names that gap.

From Oliver Wyman: Brazil and Mexico careers, Oliver Wyman: Data Science internship FAQ (2025), Oliver Wyman: FSQA internship FAQ (2025), Oliver Wyman: Middle East internship 2027, Oliver Wyman: Entry-level Consultant (March 2028), Tokyo and Oliver Wyman: London Summer Internship 2027.

The four question types, as we read them

Oliver Wyman's Brazil and Mexico page names the four types and doesn't define them. These one-line descriptions are ours.

  • Critical reasoning

A short argument, then a question on its assumption, a flaw, or what would strengthen or weaken it.

  • Problem solving

Arithmetic in a business setting: rates, percentages, capacity and time.

  • Data sufficiency

Decide whether the statements given are enough to answer, without needing to finish the calculation.

  • Integrated reasoning

Combine a table, a chart or a short text to answer one question.

A dated example: Tokyo's entry-level timeline

Oliver Wyman's posting for Tokyo entry-level consultants graduating by March 2028. Its dates show how quickly the test follows the deadline.

10 practice items for Oliver Wyman's test and interviews

Written by us. Time the first six against the Brazil and Mexico pace, then take the rest out loud.

Test style6 items

Short, GMAT-like items.

  1. Data sufficiency: what is the margin if costs were 85% of revenue?

    How to approach it

15%, and revenue doesn't matter. Spotting what you don't need is the skill.

  2. 3 lines make 1,200 units a day. How long does a 36,000-unit order take with a fourth line?

    How to approach it

22.5 days. Find the rate per line first.

  3. A stock falls 50% and then rises 50%. Where does it end?

    How to approach it

25% below where it began. The rise works on a smaller base. Practice it, see a model answer

  4. What is the angle between the clock hands at 3:15?

    How to approach it

7.5 degrees, since the hour hand has moved a quarter of the way from 3 to 4. Practice it, see a model answer

  5. How would you check an estimate before you give it?

    How to approach it

A second route to the number and a known benchmark. Practice it, see a model answer

  6. Which costs more over 5 years: a $10,000 machine with $1,000 a year upkeep, or a $6,000 one with $2,000 a year?

    How to approach it

$15,000 against $16,000, so the pricier machine is cheaper over 5 years. The two cost the same at year 4.

The interviews after it4 items

Fit and case, in Oliver Wyman's style.

  1. Why Oliver Wyman?

    How to approach it

Two specific reasons tied to its work or people, and one tied to your goals. Practice it, see a model answer

  2. Walk me through your background.

    How to approach it

Two minutes, in order, ending on why consulting now. Practice it, see a model answer

  3. A grocery chain's profits fell 20%. Where would you look first?

    How to approach it

Split revenue and costs, size each move, and say which branch you would test first. Practice it, see a model answer

  4. A furniture retailer wants to sell online. How would you approach it?

    How to approach it

Demand, the cost to serve online and the effect on stores, then a small test. Practice it, see a model answer

Mistakes, prep plan and FAQ

Where Oliver Wyman applicants trip on the test
  • Trusting one prep site's format

Prep sites disagree on length, parts and calculators. Oliver Wyman's own pages only describe the Brazil and Mexico test in detail, so use that and your invitation.

  • Assuming every office tests

The European and Tokyo internship postings we read describe interviews only. Prepare for cases either way.

  • Spending three minutes on one item

At about 115 seconds a question, one stuck item costs you the next.

  • Finishing data sufficiency sums

The question is whether you could answer, not the answer itself.

  • Missing the email the day before

In Brazil and Mexico the instructions arrive one day before the test. Check your spam folder.

How to prepare for the Oliver Wyman test

Our plan, matched to what Oliver Wyman's pages say.

  1. First

Read your office's page or posting

Brazil and Mexico, the Middle East internship and Tokyo entry-level hiring list a test. Most other postings we read don't.

  2. Two weeks

Timed sets of the four types

Sets of 13 in 25 minutes, the Brazil and Mexico pace, mixing the four types. Review every miss.

  3. Daily

    Ten minutes of mental math

Rates, growth and percentages from small tables.

  4. In English

Practice in English if it isn't your first language

The Brazil and Mexico test is entirely in English, and the fit interview too.

From Oliver Wyman: Brazil and Mexico careers.

  5. Cases

Keep cases going through test week

In Tokyo the first case interview comes about a week after the test.

Practice the Oliver Wyman case that follows the test

Soreno's AI interviewer runs Oliver Wyman-style cases out loud, asks follow-ups and scores your structure, math and recommendation. The practice items here are Soreno's own. Soreno is not affiliated with Oliver Wyman.

Questions people ask

What is the Oliver Wyman online assessment?

An online test some offices add before interviews. Oliver Wyman's Brazil and Mexico page describes 26 questions in 50 minutes, in English, on critical reasoning, problem solving, data sufficiency and integrated reasoning.

Does every Oliver Wyman office use an online test?

No. Brazil and Mexico, the Middle East internship and Tokyo's entry-level hiring list one. The London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid and Copenhagen postings and the Tokyo and Hong Kong internship postings we read on November 3, 2026 don't mention a test.

Is a calculator allowed?

None of the Oliver Wyman pages we read says. Your instructions, which arrive the day before in Brazil and Mexico, are the place to check.

Who makes the Oliver Wyman test?

Oliver Wyman doesn't name a vendor on the pages we read. Its Latin America internship FAQs call it GMAT-like.

What is a good score?

Oliver Wyman doesn't publish a pass mark. Its Brazil and Mexico FAQ says only that every stage eliminates and progression depends on the previous one.

How do I prepare?

Timed sets of GMAT-style critical reasoning, problem solving, data sufficiency and integrated reasoning at about two minutes a question, plus daily mental math and case practice.

What comes after the test?

In Brazil and Mexico, a 15-minute fit conversation and two rounds of two case interviews. In the Middle East internship, an HR interview and case interviews. In Tokyo, three case rounds.

Can I reapply after failing?

Oliver Wyman's Brazil and Mexico FAQ says applicants rejected at the fit interview wait one year. It doesn't say what applies after the test stage.
