JPMorgan interview questions, round by round
JPMorganChase runs student interviews in two rounds: a recorded first round on HireVue (or HackerRank for technology), then one or more interviews, virtual or in person. It asks you to answer with context, action and result, from your own experience.
Updated
- Round one is recorded. A HireVue video interview, plus HackerRank for technology roles.
- Round two is live. Several interviews, virtual or in person, depending on the program.
- Context, action, result. JPMorganChase's own structure for answers, built on real experience.
- No AI, no reading notes. Its handbook's don'ts include software that writes answers and reading from notes.
- Three applications at most. It suggests focusing on no more than three summer internships a year.
What JPMorganChase says it looks for
From its hiring pages, its careers handbook and how it describes its culture:
The whole person
It says it is hiring the whole person, not just a set of skills, and that being yourself makes the strongest impression.
Why this role, and how you'd grow
Its handbook asks you to be clear on why you chose the role, how you want to grow in it and what you uniquely bring.
Real examples, told in order
Context, action, result, from your studies or past work. Its handbook's don'ts include using examples that are not your own.
Its four tenets
Exceptional client service, operational excellence, a commitment to integrity, fairness and responsibility, and a great team and winning culture.

How the JPMorganChase process runs
For student and graduate programs, as JPMorganChase describes them. The process differs by position.
Apply, two rounds, decide
Step 1
Apply early
Programs fill on a rolling basis. It recommends no more than three summer internship applications, and can't speed up a decision for an offer elsewhere.
Step 2
Recorded first round
A HireVue video interview, and HackerRank for technology. You record answers in a set window on a laptop, desktop or phone with camera and microphone.
Step 3
Interviews
There can be several in this round, virtual or in person by program. Studying abroad? It holds them on Zoom.
Step 4
Decision
It reviews your whole application after the interviews and emails you either way, with resources to reflect on the process.
JPMorganChase does not publish its HireVue questions or the number of final-round interviews. Many of its assessments can't be retaken for a set period.
