Free sample case: interviewer-led

A L.E.K.-style case you can try now

A quantitative question, a pricing exhibit, a strategic question and a recommendation, asked in order.

Step 1. Read the case

Marquee Cinemas: a premium screen

The interviewer reads you the case

Your client is Marquee Cinemas, a regional chain of 40 theaters. It is considering converting one 240-seat auditorium in a flagship theater into a premium large-format screen, with bigger images and better sound. Conversion costs $1.5 million. The CEO asks you whether to convert, and what ticket price to set.

An original, fictional practice case written by Soreno in a L.E.K.-style format. It is not a L.E.K. interview question. Everything stays in your browser.

Step 2. Ask clarifying questions

L.E.K. says it uses case interviews to see how you approach business problems. Clarify scope and ask for the data you need, then structure.

Step 3. Structure your answer

Take two minutes. Structure how you would decide whether to convert and how to price the ticket. Write it, then say it out loud.

Soreno's AI interviewer gives you a full case, asks follow-up questions on your structure and math, and scores your answer. The 7-day free trial includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills.

What the L.E.K. interview looks like

Here is what L.E.K. says about its interviews on its own careers pages, and what it does not publish.

What L.E.K. says

  • Selected candidates are invited to several rounds of interviews that mix experiential interviews (about your background) and case interviews. Both quantitative and strategic cases are possible. The process varies by office and level. L.E.K.: Apply.
  • L.E.K. says it uses case-based interviews so it can see how you approach specific business problems, using data and your own experience to reach and defend a conclusion. L.E.K.: Interview preparation.
  • Its tips for the interview include absorbing the question fully, collecting your thoughts, moving methodically through your framework, asking for scope and data, sharing your reasoning, reaching and defending a conclusion while staying adaptable, and being authentic. L.E.K.: Interview preparation.
  • It suggests attending case workshops, reading business news, practicing with strategy consultants and reviewing the case studies on its site. The page includes three samples: a brainteaser, a brewery profit case and a pharmaceutical market sizing and pricing case. L.E.K.: Interview preparation.

What L.E.K. does not publish

  • how many rounds there are or how long each interview is. L.E.K. says only that this varies by office and level.
  • who leads the case. L.E.K.'s pages do not say whether the interviewer or the candidate drives it. The interviewer-led style here is Soreno's practice style, not an L.E.K. statement.
  • scoring criteria, pass marks or how the interviews are weighted.

Practice in Soreno

How Soreno's AI interviewer maps to L.E.K. practice

These are features that exist in the Soreno app today. They practice the skills L.E.K.'s guidance describes. They do not reproduce its questions or scoring.

  • 1

    No L.E.K.-specific interviewer style

Soreno has McKinsey, BCG, Bain, strict and coach interviewer styles and a default style, but no L.E.K. style. Use the default interviewer, and set the interview style to interviewer-led to practice a quantitative question followed by a strategic one.

  • 2

    Interviewer-led or interviewee-led

You choose the interview style in Settings. Interviewer-led means the AI asks a sequence of questions; interviewee-led means you drive the case and decide what to analyze. Try both, because firms and interviewers differ.

  • 3

    Exhibits and math checks

The AI interviewer shows exhibits, asks you to walk through calculations and checks your arithmetic. Timed drills cover case math, market sizing and structuring.

  • 4

A scored report that quotes you

After each session you get feedback that points to moments in your own answer and a next-step plan. Recorded sessions also get filler-word and eye-contact analysis.

You set the interviewer personality and the interview style in Settings, under Interview preferences. Soreno does not simulate L.E.K.'s own practice cases, tests or tools, which the firm publishes for free where it offers them. Use them alongside Soreno.
