Free sample case: interviewer-led

A Accenture-style case you can try now

A back-of-the-envelope estimate, an exhibit, a payback and a recommendation, asked in order.

Step 1. Read the case

Brightgrid Utilities: smart meters

The interviewer reads you the case

Your client is Brightgrid Utilities, an electricity distributor with 900,000 customer meters. Every meter is read by a person once a month. Management is considering replacing all of them with smart meters that report automatically, at about $140 per meter installed. The CIO asks whether the program makes sense and where to start.

An original, fictional practice case written by Soreno in a Accenture-style format. It is not a Accenture interview question. Everything stays in your browser.

Step 2. Ask clarifying questions

Accenture's guidance says it is fine to ask clarifying questions and that small details from the interviewer often matter. Ask, then structure.

Step 3. Structure your answer

Take two minutes. Clarify the objective, break the problem into parts and say a first hypothesis. Write it, then say it out loud.

Now do a full case out loud

Soreno's AI interviewer gives you a full case, asks follow-up questions on your structure and math, and scores your answer. The 7-day free trial includes 2 mock interviews and 3 drills.

What the Accenture interview looks like

Here is what Accenture says about case interviews on its own pages, and what it does not publish. Accenture does not publish one global process.

What Accenture says

  • Its case-study blog post says the interviewer wants you to succeed and is your biggest asset: they have the information you need. It advises talking through the problem aloud rather than rushing, asking clarifying questions, sketching to communicate and noticing small details the interviewer mentions. Accenture: Tips for the case-study interview.
  • The same post says the format may vary: the interviewer might discuss your experience first or start straight with the case. Accenture: Tips for the case-study interview.
  • Accenture's Case Interview Workbook says case interviews typically last 45 to 60 minutes, with 30 to 45 on the case itself. The workbook is dated (the file name says FY19 and it carries a 2018 copyright), so treat it as a guide. Accenture: Case Interview Workbook (PDF).
  • Its US hiring page says interviews happen by phone, video or in person and that the number of interviews depends on the role. Accenture US: Recruiting and hiring process.

What Accenture does not publish

  • how many case rounds to expect, or a separate US process for Accenture Strategy. Whether you get a case depends on your country and role.
  • who leads the case. Accenture's pages do not say whether the interviewer or the candidate drives it. The interviewer-led sequence here is Soreno's practice style, not an Accenture statement.
  • scoring criteria, pass marks or how the interviews are weighted.

Practice in Soreno

How Soreno's AI interviewer maps to Accenture practice

These are features that exist in the Soreno app today. They practice the skills Accenture's guidance describes. They do not reproduce its questions or scoring.

  • 1

    No Accenture-specific interviewer style

Soreno has McKinsey, BCG, Bain, strict and coach interviewer styles and a default style, but no Accenture style. Use the default interviewer for a balanced conversation, or the coach style if you want hints.

  • 2

    Interviewer-led or interviewee-led

You choose the interview style in Settings. Interviewer-led means the AI asks a sequence of questions; interviewee-led means you drive the case and decide what to analyze. Try both, because firms and interviewers differ.

  • 3

    Exhibits and math checks

The AI interviewer shows exhibits, asks you to walk through calculations and checks your arithmetic. Timed drills cover case math, market sizing and structuring.

  • 4

A scored report that quotes you

After each session you get feedback that points to moments in your own answer and a next-step plan. Recorded sessions also get filler-word and eye-contact analysis.

You set the interviewer personality and the interview style in Settings, under Interview preferences. Soreno is voice-based and does not simulate Accenture's group case studies, online assessments or coding tests. Accenture's Case Interview Workbook is free, so use it alongside Soreno.
