Goldman Sachs internship 2027: programs and interview steps

Goldman Sachs runs a nine to ten week Summer Analyst program for undergraduates and a Summer Associate program for MBA, PhD, JD, MD and LLM students, and 2027 applications are open for select businesses in the Americas and on a rolling basis in EMEA. India's eight to ten week program opened on July 1, 2026. If your application is selected, the first step is a video interview of about 30 minutes, then a Superday of two to five interviews, depending on the division. To rehearse both rounds, Soreno, an AI voice interview practice app for consulting and finance candidates, has free video answer practice with no sign-up and full banking mock interviews with follow-ups and scored feedback.

What the summer looks likeEvery program

Each summer program page lists the same three parts. Goldman's Students page gives the size of the 2026 class.

  1. First

    Orientation

The firm's culture, and the benefits and responsibilities of being a member of the firm.

  2. Then

    Training

Training designed to help you succeed in your division.

  3. All summer

    Real work

A Superday technical we wrote, workedOurs, practice

Our invented company has 50 million diluted shares at $20, $300 million of debt, $50 million of preferred stock, $100 million of cash and $125 million of EBITDA. What is its enterprise value and EV/EBITDA? Then it writes down $20 million of inventory at a 25% tax rate. Walk the three statements and say what happens to enterprise value.

  1. Step 1

    Enterprise value: $1,250 million

Equity value is 50 million times $20, or $1,000 million. Add debt and preferred stock, subtract cash: $1,250 million, which is 10.0x EBITDA.

    Enterprise value vs equity value
  2. Step 2

    Net income falls $15 million

Pre-tax income drops $20 million. Taxes fall $5 million, so net income is down $15 million.

  3. Step 3

    Cash rises $5 million

Start from net income down $15 million and add back the $20 million non-cash write-down. Operating cash flow and cash are up $5 million, the tax saving.

  4. Step 4

    The balance sheet balances

Cash up $5 million and inventory down $20 million leave assets down $15 million. Retained earnings fall $15 million, so both sides match.

    How the three statements link
  5. Answer

    Enterprise value: $1,245 million

If the share price hasn't moved, the extra $5 million of cash lowers net debt, so enterprise value goes from $1,250 million to $1,245 million. Say the assumption out loud.

What does Goldman Sachs look for in interns?

From Goldman's Students and Prepare pages.

  • Any academic background

Goldman says it actively seeks talented people from all academic backgrounds for its university programs and entry level roles. A finance major is not required.

  • A match between you and a division

Goldman asks you to read the divisional descriptions and work out where your experiences and skill sets align. Your why answer should name that match.

  • A look at more than one team

Because the same skills may translate to several divisions, Goldman encourages you to learn about all of its opportunities before you decide.

  • Time spent getting to know the firm

Goldman points students to My GS Events for virtual and in-person sessions, workshops and networking, and to alumni and campus ambassadors through your school's careers office.

  • Learning by doing

Goldman describes an apprenticeship culture where interns get involved in real projects. Stories where you learned on the job fit that well.

10 Goldman Sachs internship questions to practice

Our own wording, for the video interview and the Superday. Sample answers are written by our team, and the applicants are invented.

Fit and behavioral6 questions

For the video and every Superday room. Keep each answer to about a minute.

  1. Why Goldman Sachs, and why this division?

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. I want Investment Banking because I like testing a company's numbers against what management says, which is what I did leading the valuation work in our student fund. At a campus session, two analysts described interns building pieces of client materials from week one. That matches how I learn, by doing the work next to someone better than me.

One reason tied to the division's work and one thing you learned from a Goldman person or event. Name the match between your experience and the team. Practice it, see a model answer

  2. Walk me through a market story you are following.

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. I have been reading about how higher borrowing costs push buyers toward stock deals and minority stakes instead of heavily borrowed buyouts. For a corporate client, that changes which deals pencil out. Next I would watch whether falling rates bring sponsors back to auctions.

One story, why it matters to a client and what you would watch next. Your own reading, never a claim you can't back up. Practice it, see a model answer

  3. Tell me about a time a team disagreed on how to solve a hard problem.

    What a strong answer does

Both views in a sentence, how you tested them with facts, and the result in a number. Practice it, see a model answer

  4. Describe a time you caught an error just before a deadline.

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. Two hours before a partner review at my accounting internship, I saw a cash flow formula subtracting an increase in payables instead of adding it. My task was formatting, but I flagged it to the senior associate, showed him the cell and fixed the three slides that used it. We sent an accurate deck on time.

What you saw, who you told and how fast you fixed it. Show you spoke up even when it wasn't your task. Practice it, see a model answer

  5. Tell me about a time you learned a tool quickly to finish a job.

    What a strong answer does

The deadline, how you learned it and how you checked your work before handing it in. Practice it, see a model answer

  6. Two people give you urgent work at the same time. What do you do?

    What a strong answer does

Find the hard deadline, tell the other person your new time before it slips, then deliver both. Practice it, see a model answer

Technical and division questions4 questions

Ours. Say the number first, then the reasoning.

  1. A company borrows $100 million at 6% to buy back $100 million of stock. What happens to enterprise value and the P/E multiple?

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. Enterprise value is unchanged: debt rises $100 million and equity value falls $100 million. At a 25% tax rate the after-tax cost of debt is 4.5%, which matches a P/E of 22.2x. Below that, EPS rises. If the share price holds, a higher EPS means a lower P/E multiple, and a lower EPS means a higher one.

Enterprise value doesn't move at the moment of the deal. Then compare the P/E with the inverse of the after-tax cost of debt. Practice it, see a model answer

  2. Pitch me a stock or a trade in 90 seconds.

    What a strong answer does

The call, the catalyst, why the price is wrong and the main risk with where you would get out. For Markets, keep it to four sentences. Practice it, see a model answer

  3. How would you find out why a data pipeline got slow?

    Show the sample answer

Sample answer. I would log timestamps at each stage before touching the code. In a class project, profiling showed most of the time sat in an unindexed join inside a loop. Moving the join out and adding the index cut the run from minutes to seconds, and I kept the timings to show it.

For Engineering and Operations. Measure each stage before changing anything, fix the slowest one, then show the before and after.

  4. What would you ask your interviewers at the end of a Superday?

    What a strong answer does

A question about their team that only they can answer, such as what the strongest interns did in their first weeks. Not one the website answers.

Mistakes, prep plan and FAQ

Mistakes that cost Goldman applicants
  • Waiting to apply

Goldman evaluates applications through the season, and EMEA reviews on a rolling basis. A late application competes for fewer places.

  • Knowing one division only

Goldman encourages you to learn about all its opportunities. Be ready to say why your first choice beats the one next to it.

  • A why answer that fits any bank

Tie your reason to something you learned at a Goldman event or from a Goldman person, then to the division's work.

  • Treating the video as a formality

It is the first interview, about 30 minutes, and only selected applicants reach the Superday after it.

A two-week plan before the video and the Superday

Our plan, built on Goldman's Prepare page.

  1. Days 1 to 3

    Write your division story

Read Goldman's description of each division you applied to and write a 60-second answer on how your projects match its work.

From Goldman Sachs: Explore Our Firm.

  2. Days 4 to 6

    Follow two market stories

One macro theme and one company or deal you can discuss. Goldman's weekly Briefings newsletter is one place to start.

  3. Days 7 to 10

    Drill technicals or coding

For finance divisions: the three statements, enterprise value, a DCF and merger math, out loud and without notes. For Engineering: timed coding problems.

  4. Days 11 to 14

    Record timed video answers

Record six one-minute answers to the fit questions above, look into the lens, watch them back and cut the filler.
